Introducing the North Central London, Preceptorship programme - 9 sessions

The North Central London (NCL) Superhub has worked with colleagues in Inner East London Superhub to develop guidance and resources as well a series of sessions to support the preceptorship in local primary, community and social care settings. The aim of preceptorship is to support new nurses settle into their respective clinical areas and build the competence and confidence of nurses to be safe, autonomous professionals. 

The NCL preceptorship is open to:

  • Newly qualified nurses
  • Nurse who have recently registered with the NMC following a return to practice or overseas conversion
  • Nurses would have recently completed the GON training programme
  • Nurses who have recently started working in a new setting in primary, community and social care
  • Other any other Nurse who feels they would benefit from some additional support in their role

The programme consists of:

  • Nine sessions (held every 6-weeks) these are a combination of action learning and peer support
  • A handbook which record the preceptees progress and a development plan as well as reflective exercises
  • The workplace will need to allocate a preceptor to support during the preceptorship year, this should be another nurse with experience (training and support will be available)
